JR's Random Outdoor Quote

“Poets talk about ‘spots of time,’ but it is really the fishermen who experience eternity compressed into a moment. No one can tell what a spot of time is until suddenly the whole world is a fish and the fish is gone. I shall remember that son of a bitch forever.”
-Norman Maclean
A River Runs Through It, 1976

Ain't that the truth? Great movie, great line. My dad was an avid sportfisherman and Commodore of the Hatteras Marlin Club. In his last HMC tournament, four months before he died of cancer, we had a blue marlin strike and he handled that boat as well as he ever had in his life. But the fish pulled the hook. Not long after we pulled in the lines and headed for the dock. Everyone on board knew that was his last trip and we'll never forget it.
