Barack Obama On Guns…Again
If his goal is to reassure gun owners that he isn’t interested in quashing our Second Amendment rights, I don’t think this statement is going to help much:
“Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ Obama said. “This can’t be the reason not to vote for me.”
Seems like pretty cold comfort to think that what’s preventing President Obama from snagging our guns is a lack of votes in the Democratic House and Democratic Senate led by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.
As an aside, I like the comment from this person to the post:
“Of course he won’t. It would be kind of hard to since we’re all ‘clinging’ to them.”
Got that right.
—John Snow
Update: The NRA-ILA takes Joe Biden to the woodshed for his anti-gun record.
Sprawl, gun ranges disappearing due to environmental and noise regulations and lack of hunting opportunities will be the undoing of the american gun owner. Maybe not in my lifetime, but probably in the lifetime of my kids.
I already know people who have quit buying new guns and sold most of what they had for these very reasons. When I talked to them about it, their point was quite simply, "Why own what you can't use"?
All the sportsmans groups and the NRA need to address USAGE issues just as much as ownership issues and gather gun owners together in a manner as to secure shooting ranges and continued hunting opportunities for ALL Americans (not just wealthy Americans).

I shudder to think that the only thing that is stopping him is votes. If he had them, they would have pushed them threw already. This is a guy who will destroy our way of life all together. jstreet is right, our hunting and target shooting areas are disappearing and unless we stand and finally say no we and our sport are doomed. I try to tell everyone I meet that this guy is wrong. When I start this most of the time I am called a racist (thanks MSM) because I am going against a "black" man. I wouldn't care if he was purple, all his ideas are marxist and against everything we believe in. Think people and act

Amen to only wealthy Americans part. Every year it seems to get harder for a poor joe to shoot so much as a rabbit.

Obama seems to think that we are all a bunch of latte sipping, apartment dwelling slugs, that wouldn't know the world outside, if it bit us in the butt. Those of us that are aware of life in general, know without question, he should not be allowed to any place of power or government. Besides, I feel very uncomfortable with a person whose name fits so well with BINLADIN!

Let's get the facts straight. After it helped to cause losing the last two Presidential elections, the Democrat Party has removed the gun issue from its party plank. It is a non-issue at this time. What Obama says are his own thoughts and not the party's. Over 430 Democrat congressmen have clearly stated that they would not support any form of gun control, any way shape or form. Let the NRA continue their scare tactics, but these are the facts.

As a personal "Thank you" to the got rocks people, the camoflage bandits with thier black guns who "Fudd" anyone that isn't shooting a black gun, the idiots that take atvs into walk-in only hunting areas, etal. I have sold my collection of 64 guns and will be voting a straight Dumocrap ticket as a payback. Enjoy.

Okay, so I get to choose between one guy who wants to take away my guns, and another who wants to take away my Social Security and dissolve my union.
And this is a choice?

To Century Plus Hunter: Read page 58 of the Republican 2008 Platform shown here and then compare it to the Democrat 2008 Platform page 48 also shown below.
After reading these (you can Google them if you like which is what I did) you tell me which party you trust with your guns.
Republican 2008 Platform - page 58
Upholding the Constitutional Right
to Keep and Bear Arms
We uphold the right of
individual Americans to own
firearms, a right which antedated
the Constitution and
was solemnly confirmed by
the Second Amendment. We
applaud the Supreme Court's
decision in Heller affirming
that right, and we assert the
individual responsibility to
safely use and store firearms.
We call on the next president
to appoint judges who will similarly respect the
Constitution. Gun ownership is responsible citizenship,
enabling Americans to defend themselves, their
property, and communities.
We call for education in constitutional rights in
schools, and we support the option of firearms training
in federal programs serving senior citizens and
women. We urge immediate action to review the
automatic denial of gun ownership to returning
members of the Armed Forces who have suffered
trauma during service to their country. We condemn
frivolous lawsuits against firearms manufacturers,
which are transparent attempts to deprive citizens of
their rights. We oppose federal licensing of law-abiding
gun owners and national gun registration as violations
of the Second Amendment. We recognize that
gun control only affects and penalizes law-abiding
citizens, and that such proposals are ineffective at
reducing violent crime.
Democrat 2008 Platform - page 48
Firearms
We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition,
and we will preserve Americans’ continued Second Amendment right to own and use
firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but
we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne. We can work together
to enact and enforce common-sense laws and improvements, like closing the gun show
loophole, improving our background check system and reinstating the assault weapons
ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals. Acting responsibly
and with respect for differing views on this issue, we can both protect the constitutional
right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe.

I hunt, fish, shoot guns, shoot bows, and spend a lot of money pursuing these activities. And I am voting for Obama! My views and beliefs are broad and inclusive. I am not narrow minded nor am I a one-issue voter. I encourage my fellow outdoor people to think seriously about voting in four more years of George W. Bush. Our country needs a new direction. And we will get to keep our guns!

I am a retire teamster member but I have not and will not vote for a person who wants to take away my right to keep and bear arms.If we lose that right what happens if they
say no unions??Think about it.

RE: Posted by: Former owner | September 15, 2008 at 11:30 AM
Former owner says he sold off his guns because he got pissed off against the gun owners with evil guns and because someone illegally drove their ATVs into a limited access wilderness area. This is very fishy and tells us a bunch. By showing his hatred for military type guns and hunting, he revealed himself to be a Democratic mole and Sierra Clubnut trolling gun and hunting sites to leave more Democratic lies and tall tales.
Don't let a product of the Chicago political/crime boss system run our country and have regulatory power through the FBI & ATF over our gun rights or power to appoint gun grabbing federal judges. Vote to protect our Constitutional Rights. Vote to protect our heritage. Vote McCain/Palin.

I'm an elk hunter, and avid angler. I'm voting for Obama. He has said that he believes the 2nd Amendment confers an individual right to bear arms.
He will consider all the needs of sportsmen, habitat, gun rights, access, and funding for management.
It's time to read the facts. Obama is the best choice for sportsmen!

Brian-
Which end of the pipe are you smoking? The man shifts his positions every two seconds and you believe him? Get real...the liberal jokers in Washington want all guns gone. Period. A vote for Barack HUSSEIN Obama is the same as bending over and smiling..
Wake up.

I for one am American. I DONT VOTE!
Posted by: Youngin | September 18, 2008 at 10:24 PM
I am a former Dem and an avid sportsman. I changed parties after serving in the military and after researching not relying on media, politics in this country. I consider myself independent but I have to pick a side that I agree with more and stands a chance. I hope some day more people will support libertarian canidates but until then Republicans are who most my votes go to. If you want a strong country, your guns and a job McCain is where your vote should be. If you want to be a citizen of the UN, live in a police state and goverment handouts vote for Obama.
Posted by: Jerry | September 19, 2008 at 02:17 AM
If Obama wins, you better grab your backsides, because it's going to be a bumpy ride. The guy makes Ted Kennedy look bright. If you think he and the rest of the anti-gun, anti-hunting Dems will protect your Second Amendment rights, you are smoking some pretty strong stuff. They will take away those rights faster than you can throw your hat on the floor. The Supreme Court vote was 5 to 4. The next President will likely fill two Supreme Court spots. You want Obama imposing his far left politics on us for generations to come? Well, I do not. One vote here for McCain.

Did Biden die or something? I have seen absolutly nothing with him talking or campaining with Obama. Is Obama having second thoughts about his choice?? Not very good PR to only have one person running against two!
